(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County, Samuel Henry Malimbo, has issued a local order prohibiting children under the age of 18 from entering clubs, discos and sports clubs across the county
The directive issued on Thursday, contained in Local Order No. 7/2026 and effective from 2 July 2026, aims to protect school-going children from dropping out of school, reduce gang-related activities, and curb the abuse of alcohol, drugs and other harmful substances.
According to the order, the measure is also intended to address criminal activities and immoral behaviour linked to entertainment venues frequented by minors.
Under the new regulations, owners of clubs, discos and sports clubs who allow children below the age of 18 onto their premises will face a fine of no less than 1,000,000 South Sudanese Pounds (SSP) or imprisonment for up to three months. The order further warns that operating licences may be withdrawn for non-compliance.
The directive also outlines penalties for minors found in violation of the order, including a fine of not less than 500,000 SSP per child and the possibility of imprisonment for up to three months.
To ensure enforcement, Commissioner Malimbo directed the Inspector of Police, the National Security Service (NSS), the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and all Payam Directors in Yei River County to implement the order immediately.
Speaking on the directive, the Commissioner said the measure is designed to safeguard the welfare of children, promote discipline and education, and create a safer environment for communities across Yei River County.
Local authorities have called on parents, guardians and business owners to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure full compliance with the order.
