(TEREKEKA COUNTY) – The South Sudan Red Cross has deployed teams to provide first aid and emergency response during the Terekeka County Cultural Festival, which runs from 16 to 18 January. The festival brings together communities from across the state, and organisers have highlighted safety as a priority.
A total of 30 trained volunteers have been stationed at key points along the Juba-Terekeka highway and at the festival venue. The teams are offering first aid and emergency response in coordination with government and security authorities, who are also monitoring the highway to enhance road safety and ensure timely interventions.
On the first day of deployment, volunteers responded to 15 incidents, including two fatalities and two critical cases that required transfer to Juba for advanced medical care.
In addition to first aid, the Red Cross is working with the National Blood Transfusion Service to mobilise voluntary blood donors. The NTBTS said the initiative strengthens emergency medical support for participants and the wider community during the festival.
A statement published on it’s online platforms stated the Red Cross team will remain on the ground, alert and ready to respond as the cultural celebrations continue through the weekend.
