(LAINYA COUNTY) – A delegation from the Organisation for Food and Agricultural Opportunities met Lainya County officials on 13 February 2026 to discuss humanitarian assistance, agricultural development and peace building activities.
The team was led by Mr Gift Moses, Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator. He met the Commissioner of Lainya County, Hon Robert Lasu John Morris, alongside the County Relief and Rehabilitation Commission Coordinator and the Director for Agriculture.
During the meeting, the delegation outlined plans for an upcoming agricultural project in Mukaya Payam and Kupera Payam. The project is designed as a cross border initiative covering South Sudanese communities in West Nile in Uganda, Yei River County and Lainya County.
Mr Moses said the programme will focus on food production and support to vulnerable households, with the aim of improving livelihoods and strengthening cooperation among border communities.
Mr Ayume Samuel from the Community Development Center also spoke about peace building activities in the payams. He said community dialogue and local engagement remain central to stabilising areas affected by displacement and economic hardship.
The Director for Agriculture and the County Relief and Rehabilitation Commission Coordinator welcomed the initiative. They said the county administration is ready to cooperate with humanitarian partners to ensure smooth implementation of the project.
Commissioner Robert Lasu John Morris said Lainya County supports the work of non governmental organisations operating in South Sudan. He appealed to the organisation to extend similar projects to other payams within the county so that more communities can benefit.
County officials said partnerships between local authorities and aid organisations remain important in addressing food insecurity and promoting stability in parts of Central Equatoria State.
