
Lainya Security Team Visits Farms After Cattle Damage - PHOTO CREDITS: County Press
(LAINYA COUNTY) – The Security Coordinator of Lainya County in Central Equatoria State on 23 February 2026 led a delegation to inspect farms reportedly destroyed by cattle belonging to Dinka Bor herders.
Hon Charles Leju visited the affected areas in the morning to assess the level of damage and to speak with farmers and cattle keepers. During the visit, he directed the cattle keepers to vacate the area immediately. The herders requested a grace period of two days before moving.
Mr Wani, identified as a Mundari chief, welcomed the county administration’s efforts to resolve the matter through dialogue and pledged compensation for properties destroyed.
The county administration urged residents to remain calm as efforts continue to resolve the dispute peacefully.
In a related development, a team from the Organisation for Food and Agricultural Opportunities met the Lainya County administration on 13 February 2026 to discuss humanitarian support, development and peace building initiatives.
The OFAO delegation, led by Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator Mr Gift Moses, met the County Commissioner Hon Robert Lasu John Morris, the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission Coordinator and the Director of Agriculture.
Mr Gift Moses briefed county officials on an upcoming agricultural project planned for Mukaya Payam and Kupera Payam. The initiative is described as a cross border project that will support South Sudanese communities from West Nile in Uganda as well as Yei River County and Lainya County.
Mr Ayume Samuel from the Community Development Center outlined peace building initiatives in the payams. The Director of Agriculture and the RRC Coordinator welcomed the project and assured humanitarian partners of cooperation.
Hon Robert Lasu John Morris expressed readiness to support the work of non governmental organisations operating in Lainya County and appealed for the expansion of projects to additional payams.
County authorities said the discussions reflect ongoing efforts in Lainya County to address both security concerns affecting farmers and longer term development needs across communities in Central Equatoria State.
