EU ambassador being welcomed by the County commisioner
(YEI RIVER COUNTY) -European Union ambassador to South Sudan visited Yei River County on Tuesday and held talks with local authorities on security and development.
Per Enar Enarsson arrived in Yei alongside representatives of international development organizations from Juba and was received by County Commissioner Samuel Henry Malimbo and other local officials.
The welcoming delegation included the county’s newly appointed executive director, the paramount chief, senior security officials and the county medical director.
Following his arrival, Enarsson held a briefing with Commissioner Malimbo to discuss issues affecting Yei River County.
Speaking after the meeting, Malimbo said the security situation in the county remains calm.
The visit comes as Yei continues to recover from years of conflict that displaced thousands of residents and disrupted livelihoods, public services and local governance.
Improved security in recent years has enabled humanitarian agencies and development partners to expand recovery and resilience programs across the county.
The European Union has been one of South Sudan’s largest development and humanitarian partners, supporting peacebuilding, governance, education, healthcare, agriculture and livelihoods through projects implemented with United Nations agencies, international organizations and civil society groups.
In Yei River County, EU-funded initiatives have helped strengthen community resilience, improve access to basic services and support local organizations working on education, protection, gender equality and economic recovery.
Details of the ambassador’s planned engagements in Yei were not immediately available.
