(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County Emmanuel Taban Seme has launched a three year strategic action plan for the Yei River County Youth Association (YRCYA), outlining a framework to empower young people, promote peace and drive community development between 2025 and 2027.
Speaking during the launch ceremony on Friday, Commissioner Taban praised the efforts of the Youth Association in organising and promoting youth activities across the county.
He promised the county administration’s continued support towards youth development initiatives, saying the energy and creativity of young people are essential for peace and progress in Yei.
Lona Sema Nelson, the Speaker of the Yei River County Youth Association, thanked the county authorities for providing a piece of land for the youth union in Yei. She said the land will serve as a central hub for youth programmes, meetings, and training sessions aimed at strengthening unity and participation among young people.
The Chairperson of YRCYA, Gaga Frank Justine, outlined the association’s priorities under the new strategic plan. He said the plan is built around four key outcomes designed to ensure that no group is left behind, with a focus on peace, security, economic recovery, and community inclusion.
According to the association, the four outcomes include:
| Outcome | Focus Area |
|---|---|
| 1. Peace and Security | Strengthening stability, protecting the livelihoods of displaced people and refugees and advancing peacebuilding activities. |
| 2. Community Engagement | Promoting social cohesion, rebuilding relationships among communities and encouraging cultural diversity. |
| 3. Economic Recovery | Supporting resilience building in areas affected by food insecurity, violence and climate shocks. |
| 4. Institutional Support | Providing reliable services and technical support to development partners and high risk groups. |
Mr Justine added that the association’s mission is to create incentives for peace and discourage youth involvement in violence, crime, and other destructive activities.
“We want to make sure the furthest behind are the first to benefit,” he said.
The Yei River County Youth Association describes itself as an independent, youth led, non religious and non profit organisation that seeks to unite and empower young people, promote their rights and give them a voice in the development of their communities.
The group says its slogan “Made for the young people, by the young people, and about the young people” represents its commitment to inclusivity and leadership among the youth.
Residents and community leaders in Yei have welcomed the launch, saying the plan will provide direction and coordination for youth programmes in the coming years, particularly in promoting peace, employment and social cohesion in the county.
