(MOROBO COUNTY) – A senior official from the Morobo County Peace Committee is calling on both the government and local residents to prioritize reconciliation and peacebuilding efforts to restore stability and promote socio-economic development in the area.
Speaking during a live radio talk show on Iyete FM in Morobo Town on Thursday, Ambrous Hakim, Secretary for Research of the Morobo County Peace Committee, emphasized that lasting peace is essential for improving farming and business activities in the county.
“The economy of Morobo County one hundred percent lies on farmers, and our total income is raised through farming. If there is no peace, we are going to grow poorer and poorer. So we are advocating for peace so that farmers can live peacefully, farm peacefully, and improve their income. We also want peace in Morobo so that businesspeople can travel freely because if there is no business in the county, everything will worsen,” said Hakim.
Morobo County, located in the south-western part of Central Equatoria State, continues to feel the impact of the 2016 conflict, which disrupted livelihoods and economic activities. Local leaders say renewed efforts toward dialogue and reconciliation are critical to restoring normalcy and fostering long-term development in the region.
