(LASU PAYAM, YEI RIVER COUNTY) – A five-day peace and reconciliation conference held in Tokori Boma of Lasu Payam concluded last Friday with a strong appeal to the government to restore peace and stability in the area.
The 2nd Annual Lasu Payam Peace Conference and Cultural Festival, which began on Monday, February 23, 2026, and ended on Friday, February 27, brought together community leaders, stakeholders and residents to strengthen unity, promote cultural preservation, and support socio-economic development in the Payam.
Speaking to Access Radio on Sunday afternoon, Tokori Boma Community Leader Khamis Yatta said the conference addressed key issues including peace and security, cultural heritage, local governance, land and resource management and socio-economic recovery through agriculture.
Yatta emphasized that restoring peace and security remains the top priority for the community.
“As a community, our interest is peace back home and we want peace not tomorrow. We want to return home and sustain our livelihoods. Our appeal to the state and county government is only peace and security. That was one reason why we organized this peace conference so that we can talk and ask ourselves what went wrong and how peace can be restored back home, so that our people can enjoy the dividends of peace and stability in the area,” Yatta said.
According to Yatta, the resolutions and recommendations from the conference will be shared with Lasu community leaders, the Yei River County Commissioner, Members of Parliament representing Lasu Payam at both state and national levels, the Ministry of Peacebuilding and the Governor of Central Equatoria State.
Tokori Boma is located approximately 22 miles northwest along the Yei–Maridi Road. The area is known for its fertile soil, which supports agricultural production. However, residents continue to face limited access to humanitarian services.
The conference concluded with renewed community commitment to reconciliation, peaceful coexistence, and grassroots development initiatives.
