(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Evangelical Presbyterian Church of South Sudan and Uganda (EPC) has announced plans to establish a modern cancer treatment and research facility in Yei River County, Central Equatoria State.
According to Archbishop Elias Taban Parangi, preparations are already underway for the launch of the South Sudan National Cancer Institute, which is expected to serve patients both nationally and regionally. The institute aims to provide specialized cancer treatment services locally, reducing the need for patients to travel abroad for care.
During a joint meeting held on February 25 with Central Equatoria State officials, the Archbishop extended an invitation to Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony to officiate the upcoming foundation stone laying ceremony for the facility.
The Central Equatoria State Press Unit widely shared details of the meeting on social media, confirming that the project is part of broader church-led development initiatives in the region.
Beyond healthcare, Archbishop Elias emphasized the church’s ongoing role in promoting peace and reconciliation at the grassroots level, particularly in Southern Central Equatoria.
Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony commended the Archbishop’s steadfast commitment to peace-building, hope, and reconciliation. He acknowledged the holistic services provided by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and pledged full government support for transformative church-led projects in the state.
