(JUBA CITY) – Authorities in Central Equatoria State have banned the distribution of harmful and illegal drugs in Juba, including codeine, crystal meth commonly known as ice, and marijuana.
State officials said the measure is part of efforts to address rising drug abuse, which they described as a key factor behind violent behaviour and gang related incidents involving young people in the capital.
A security team has been dispatched to enforce the ban and take action against drug dealers. The team is led by the Deputy Governor of Central Equatoria State, Paulino Lukudu Obede.
According to the state government, individuals or networks involved in the sale or distribution of illegal drugs will be identified and prosecuted in line with the law.
The authorities have called on members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by sharing information related to drug abuse and trafficking.
The announcement was made by Central Equatoria State officials, with photos released by the Office of the Governor, led by Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony.
The state government said the operation forms part of wider efforts to improve public safety and reduce crime in Juba and across Central Equatoria.
