Central Equatoria Acts After Child Kidnapping in Juba County/CESGPU Handout
(JUBA COUNTY) – The government of Central Equatoria State has strongly condemned the recent abduction of six children in Aru Junction, Lokiliri Payam, and directed security forces to take firm action against those responsible.
The announcement was made on Tuesday following a state security meeting chaired by Governor Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel at Kator Block in Juba City Council.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Hon. Leon Abe Brown, the Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies, said two of the six children were rescued shortly after the incident, while four others remain missing. He confirmed that security forces are pursuing the suspects, who are still at large.
“The government is committed to ensuring that every child is safe. Efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining children and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Hon. Abe said.
Governor Mujung has ordered all security organs in the state to heighten vigilance, increase patrols and strengthen community surveillance to prevent future abductions.
The meeting also discussed growing concern over the increasing abuse of illicit alcohol and drugs among the youth, which officials say is contributing to rising incidents of suicide, crime and violence.
The State Security Committee resolved to begin coordinated operations to curb the production and sale of illicit substances and to roll out public awareness campaigns about their dangers.
According to Hon. Abe, the Ministries of Information and Communication, Peace Building and Gender, Child and Social Welfare have been assigned to lead the awareness efforts in collaboration with local media and community groups.
In addition, the Committee instructed the Juba County Commissioner and the Mayor of Juba City Council to reorganize congested markets across the city to improve safety, ease emergency response, and promote better urban order.
Hon. Abe reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting children and tackling drug-related crimes, calling for closer cooperation between the public and law enforcement agencies.
“The general security situation remains calm, but the government will not tolerate criminal activities that threaten public peace and safety,” he said.
