(LASU PAYAM, YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Preparations are underway for the second peace and cultural festival in Lasu Payam, scheduled to take place from 22nd to 27th February 2026 in Tokori Boma.
The upcoming event, which will bring together both urban and rural residents, aims to promote peacebuilding, cultural revival, and socio-economic development within the community.
Speaking ahead of the conference, Tokori Boma Community Leader Khamis Yatta said the gathering will unite youth, women, and elders to dialogue on restoring lasting peace in Lasu.
“The purpose of this conference is to bring the people of Lasu — both the youth, women, and the elderly — to dialogue on how to bring peace back home. Last year it was peacefully and successfully done in Lasu Payam, and this year, 2026, it will be held in Tokori. The theme is ‘Building Bridges of Peace, Cultural and Economic Progress in Lasu Payam and Beyond,’” Yatta said.
Tokori Boma is located approximately 22 miles northwest along the Yei–Maridi Road. The area is known for its fertile soil, which supports agricultural production. However, it continues to face limited access to humanitarian services.
The conference is expected to strengthen unity among communities and foster collaboration toward sustainable development in Lasu Payam and surrounding areas.
