Former Yei Commissioner Agrey Cyrus Declares National Parliamentary Bid

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Former Yei River County Commissioner Dr. Agrey Cyrus Kanyikwa, PhD has announced his intention to contest for a seat in South Sudan’s anticipated 2026 general elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Kanyikwa said he would run for the position of National Member of Parliament for Constituency Number 8, which covers Mugwo Payam and parts of Otogo Payam.

The former commissioner said his decision followed calls from residents of the constituency who encouraged him to seek election and represent their interests at the national level.

Dr. Cyrus Kanyikwa stated that, if elected, he would work alongside the people of Mugwo and Otogo to address development priorities and improve the welfare of local communities.

He also welcomed ongoing preparations for the elections scheduled for 22 December 2026, expressing confidence in the electoral process and the opportunity for citizens to choose their leaders.

The parliamentary hopeful further reaffirmed his support for the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and its political agenda, saying he remains committed to contributing to efforts aimed at improving the living conditions of South Sudanese citizens.

Kanyikwa concluded by thanking residents of Mugwo and Otogo Payams for the support and confidence they have shown in him, pledging to work closely with the people of the constituency should he be elected.

His declaration adds to the growing political activity across Central Equatoria State as prospective candidates position themselves ahead of the country’s expected general elections later this year.
