TB and Malaria Control Top Agenda in Global Fund and Health Ministry Meeting

(JUBA) – The Minister of Health, Hon. Sarah Cleto Rial met with a delegation from the Global Fund on Monday, 15 September 2025, to discuss ways to strengthen support for the fight against tuberculosis and malaria in South Sudan.

The meeting took place in Juba and brought together senior health officials and international partners.

The Global Fund delegation was led by Mr. Job Muriuki, Senior Fund Portfolio Manager for the Middle East and North Africa. Discussions focused on aligning priorities and strategies to address systemic gaps in the health sector, improve disease control and enhance service delivery.

Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Rial thanked the Global Fund for its significant contributions to South Sudan’s health programmes. She said the partnership has helped the government expand its initiatives to combat TB and malaria and improve overall healthcare services for citizens.

Mr. Muriuki commended South Sudan for its progress in public health and reaffirmed the Global Fund’s commitment to supporting the country’s path towards Universal Health Coverage. He emphasised the importance of strengthening primary healthcare services and preparing for potential pandemics.

The meeting included several senior officials from the Ministry of Health. Among them were Dr. Kennedy Ganniko Clement, Undersecretary of the Ministry, Dr. Harriet Pasquale, Director General for International Health and Coordination, Dr. Kediende Chong Mapuor, Director General for Preventive Health Services and Emergency Response and Dr. Jean Alphonse, Chairperson of the Country Coordination Mechanism.

A statement released by the Health Ministry stated the discussions would guide future cooperation and ensure that international support is effectively directed to areas of greatest need, particularly in rural communities where access to health services remains limited.
