(LAINYA) – Emmanuel Khamis has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Lainya County Youth Association, following a peaceful electoral process held on Wednesday. Lasu Joel was also elected to serve as the Speaker of the association. The two leaders will oversee youth affairs in Lainya County for the next four years.
According to the Independent Electoral Board, Emmanuel Khamis secured the Chairperson role with 25 votes. The electoral team confirmed that Mr. Lasu Joel was elected as Speaker and will serve alongside Mr. Khamis in leading the youth body.
The election was conducted under the supervision of the State Youth Union, with additional support from RSRTF partners and the local community. Electoral officials described the process as transparent and successful, reflecting the active involvement of local youth.
The Commissioner of Lainya County, Robert John, congratulated Mr. Khamis on his election. He praised the peaceful nature of the vote and assured the County Government’s full support for the new Youth Association leadership. The Commissioner expressed optimism about working closely with the team to develop youth focused programmes in the area.
Mr. Khamis, in his acceptance speech, thanked the youth for trusting him with the position and promised to serve with dedication. He pledged to promote unity and inclusivity, stressing that his leadership will be open to all youth across the county, regardless of their background or affiliations.
He also highlighted the importance of youth participation in decision making and community development, stating his intention to engage various youth groups in addressing common challenges and aspirations.
The Electoral Commission announced that the official swearing-in ceremony for the new leaders is expected to take place in a week’s time.
