(JUBA) – Professor James Wani Igga, the former Vice President of South Sudan and Deputy Chair of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) on Thursday 25 September 2025 paid a courtesy visit to Lieutenant General Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, the Governor of Central Equatoria State, at the State Secretariat in Juba.
The meeting centred on peacebuilding and community reconciliation efforts in Central Equatoria. Professor Igga commended Governor Mujung for his continued role in promoting dialogue between armed cattle herders and farmers.
He also praised the Governor’s recent organisation of a peace symposium in Terekeka, describing it as an important platform for reducing tensions and fostering stability.
Professor Igga encouraged the Governor to sustain these initiatives, saying they form a necessary foundation for building lasting peace in South Sudan. He stressed that reconciliation efforts should be strengthened across all communities to reduce conflict and promote development.
In his response, Governor Mujung expressed appreciation for Professor Igga’s words of encouragement. He said that restoring peace, unity and stability across Central Equatoria is a task that requires collective responsibility.
He appealed for continued support from veteran leaders such as Professor Igga, pointing out that collaboration between experienced national leaders and state officials is vital for achieving meaningful progress.
The governor’s office said in a statement the courtesy visit reflects ongoing dialogue among South Sudanese leaders aimed at strengthening reconciliation at both the community and political levels.
The state press unit CESGPU stressed the importance of partnerships between national figures and state authorities in guiding peace initiatives that can have a wider impact on the country’s stability.
