(JUBA) – South Sudan’s ruling SPLM party has directed all aspirants seeking its nomination to return to their constituencies and prepare for primary elections.
The directive covers those seeking the party’s nomination for the presidency, national parliamentary seats, governorships, state assembly seats, chief administrator positions and seats in the legislative councils of the three administrative areas.
The decision was announced after a meeting of senior party leaders and members of the Working Committee to review preparations for the country’s general elections and the party’s primary elections.

Speaking after the meeting, SPLM Secretary-General Dr. Akol Paul Kordit announced the resolutions.
He said the election remains a general election at all levels.
Dr. Akol said primary elections would proceed as planned across the states and the three administrative areas.
He urged aspirants to engage with their constituencies and party structures as the SPLM advances its electoral preparations.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Chairman of the SPLM, met with the senior party leaders and Working Committee members during the meeting.
