(TEREKEKA COUNTY) – Authorities in Terekeka County have installed a new head chief in Reggo Payam on a temporary basis, with plans set for an election after a three month transition period.
The appointment was confirmed on Friday in Terekeka, where local officials said the new head chief, Peter Molla, will serve for three months before a formal selection process is held. County authorities said the interim period will allow for monitoring and preparation ahead of the vote.
Officials stated that candidates interested in contesting the position will be required to submit applications to the acting Payam director before the election date. The director has also been tasked with overseeing the interim administration and reporting back to county leadership.
Community cooperation and stability were highlighted as priorities during the transition. Local leaders called for unity among sub chiefs, youth and residents to support the incoming administration and ensure continuity in local governance.
Security concerns were also raised, particularly ongoing cases of theft in the area. County officials urged residents to stop such practices and to work together in identifying those responsible, warning that criminal acts risk damaging the reputation of the wider community.
At the same time, community representatives voiced concern over violence affecting children. A women’s representative called for an end to killings involving minors and appealed for stronger protection of vulnerable groups.
Authorities thanked the outgoing head chief for his service and said the transition marks an opportunity to strengthen local leadership structures ahead of the planned elections.
