
Pankor Civilian Deaths Condemned by Foreign Missions
(AYOD COUNTY, JONGLEI STATE) – The Delegation of the European Union and the Embassies of Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States say they are appalled by credible reports of a deliberate massacre of civilians on 21 February in Pankor village in Ayod County, Jonglei State.
The statement says the attack was reportedly carried out by forces linked to the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces.
The missions call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to inclusive and meaningful dialogue between all parties to the ongoing conflict in South Sudan.
They say the attack comes at a time of rising violence across Jonglei State.
The statement adds that those responsible for such crimes, and for fuelling escalating violence, must be brought to justice regardless of status or political connections.
