International Call for Peace in South Sudan
(JUBA) – Several international missions in South Sudan have expressed deep concern following a rise in military conflict in Jonglei and Eastern Equatoria.
The embassies of Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States released a joint statement on 20 January 2026 addressing the deteriorating security situation.
The group of diplomats reported that recent violence has also spread to other areas across the country. They have called on all involved parties to agree to an immediate stop to the fighting.
The embassies stressed that any existing disagreements should be settled through peaceful conversation rather than through conflict.
A major part of the appeal focused on the need for aid to reach those in trouble. The embassies asked all parties to ensure that humanitarian workers have safe and constant access to affected communities.
This call comes as the United Nations warned that fighting in Jonglei has already forced more than 180,000 people to leave their homes since late December.
