(JUBA) – The Central Equatoria State Security Committee confirmed on Tuesday that the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces have regained full control of Panyume in Morobo County.
The military action followed an early morning attack by forces belonging to the SPLA IO.
Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony led a security meeting to discuss the matter, where officials told the public that the situation is now under control and asked residents to remain calm.
The committee passed several resolutions during the meeting to improve safety across the state. One major decision is the immediate removal of illegal checkpoints on roads.
Security agencies have also been told to monitor the movement of cattle herders to prevent further conflicts between them and local farmers.
Additionally, security forces will continue their work to stop the activities of criminal gangs in Juba and Yei River Counties.
In a move to improve Juba City, the Governor directed the Mayor and the Commissioner of Juba County to reorganise local markets and clear blocked roads.
They are also expected to continue cleaning the city to help it reach better international standards. The committee noted that these efforts are part of a wider plan to modernise the capital.
To deal with the ongoing problem of land grabbing, the State Ministry of Housing and the Commissioner of Juba County have been ordered to start showing land plots to their rightful owners.
This process is intended to resolve long standing disputes over land ownership.
The meeting ended with a request for the public to ignore false information spread by people who oppose peace and to continue with their daily lives.
