(KAJO KEJI COUNTY, CENTRAL EQUATORIA STATE) – The Commissioner of Kajo Keji County on Thursday met the Chief Executive Officer of Sobetra International Construction Ltd to discuss possible large scale investment in agriculture and mining in the county.
The meeting took place at the Commissioner’s office in Mere. It focused on partnerships aimed at developing the county’s agricultural land and mineral resources.
The company expressed interest in setting up mechanised farming projects, agro processing facilities and exploring mining opportunities. It said the projects could create jobs and support local economic growth.
After the meeting, Commissioner Hon. Wani Jackson Mule said Kajo Keji County has fertile land, favourable climate conditions and mineral deposits that have not yet been developed.
He said the county government is ready to provide a secure and supportive environment for credible investors. He added that engagement with Sobetra International Construction Ltd is an important step towards strengthening the local economy, supporting farmers and increasing revenue through regulated mining activities.
The Chief Executive Officer of Sobetra International Construction Ltd, Junior, said the company is seeking a partnership based on community participation and sustainable development.
He said the company plans to work with local authorities and communities to introduce modern farming technology, improve agricultural value chains and ensure that any mining activity meets environmental and safety standards.
The discussions covered plans for commercial farms and irrigation systems, agro processing plants to add value to local produce, and skills training and employment opportunities for youth and women.
The talks also addressed environmental impact assessments and compliance in mining operations, as well as infrastructure needs such as access roads and storage facilities.
The county government said it is ready to support feasibility studies, land allocation procedures and regulatory approvals in line with national laws and state policies.
Officials said the engagement forms part of Kajo Keji County’s wider development plan to attract responsible private investment, improve food security, reduce unemployment and broaden the local economy.
Further technical consultations between county officials and the company are expected in the coming weeks to develop a formal cooperation framework.
