(KAJO-KEJI COUNTY) – At least two villagers in Nypepo Payam of Kajo-Keji County have died in Nyepo mineral mining site last weekend.
The circumstance surrounding the death of the two unnamed local youth remained unclear.
On Tuesday, the Commissioner of Kajo-Keji County, Wani Jackson Mule paid a condolence visit to the families of two victims affected by the recent tragic incident.
While at the funeral home, commissioner Mule met with youth leaders, community elders, and bereaved families and offered heartfelt condolences on behalf of the county government.
Hon Wani described the incident as unfortunate and painful, noting that the loss of young lives has deeply affected the entire community.
“The government shares in your grief,” the Commissioner said. “The lives lost were innocent, and their death is not only a loss to their families but to Nyepo Payam and the county at large.” he stressed.The Commissioner urged the youth to remain calm and avoid acts of retaliation, emphasizing the importance of peace, unity, and cooperation during this difficult period. He assured the community that authorities are committed to investigating the incident and ensure justice is served. Youth leader Kenyi Henry John welcomed the visit and appreciated the gesture, saying it demonstrated the government’s concern for the welfare of the people. He called for improved safety measures at mining sites and stronger engagement with the youth to prevent similar incidents in the future. Head chief James Modi echoed a call for peace and appealed for continued dialogue between authorities and local communities to address underlying challenges associated with mining activities. The visit concluded with prayers for the deceased and a renewed commitment from both leaders and residents to work together to promote safety, peace, and development in Nyepo Payam of Kajo-Keji County.
