Morobo Community Reels from Monday Night Attack

(MOROBO COUNTY) – An armed group attacked Aboroto village in Lujule payam, Morobo County, on the night of Monday 12th October 2026, burning three homes and injuring two people.

The assailants also stole personal belongings from residents, according to the Office of the Caretaker Commissioner.

The group is suspected to be among the holdout groups, the office said.

The attack has deepened an already tense situation in the area, where residents have faced rising insecurity, abductions and looting in recent months.

Residents are grappling with the emotional and physical effects of the violence, which has made daily life difficult for civilians.

The Caretaker Commissioner of Morobo County, Hon Moro Isaac Johnson, visited the victims on Tuesday.

He was accompanied by the SSPDF area commander for Morobo garrison and members of other organised forces.

The visit was intended to restore hope and offer protection to the civilian population, according to the Commissioner’s office.

Addressing the people, Hon Isaac offered comfort to the affected families and condemned the attack.

“We must uphold human dignity,” he said, urging those involved in the violence to reconsider their choices and allow the community to heal from the trauma lingering since the 2016 crisis.

Hon Moro called on the holdout groups to engage constructively with the government.

He said continued violence only perpetuates suffering for innocent civilians.

“We want to see a community where people can live in peace, free from fear,” he declared.

In response to the escalating violence, the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces have increased their presence in the area.

The deployment is meant to calm the situation, the office said.

Efforts to pursue those responsible for the attack are underway.

The Commissioner’s office said the government aims to ensure the safety and security of all residents, particularly in areas like Lujule payam that have seen a rise in criminal activities of late.
