Morobo County Kicks Off Christmas Football Contest

(MOROBO COUNTY) – A community football tournament marking Christmas celebrations has begun in Morobo County, Central Equatoria State, with nine youth teams taking part. The event kicked off on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025, and the winning team will be crowned on Christmas Day.

Organisers say the competition is aimed at encouraging unity and peaceful interaction among young people in Morobo County. The tournament brings together teams from different parts of the county, giving many young players a chance to showcase their talent.

The teams have been placed into two groups as shown below:

Matches will be played throughout the month, giving communities from across the county the opportunity to come together during the festive period. Local football fans have welcomed the tournament and expressed hope that more sports programmes will be developed in the future to keep young people active and involved.

Community members say events like this help promote peace, especially as South Sudan continues efforts to strengthen stability and development.

The final match will be played on December 25th, when one team will take home the Christmas trophy.
