35 Yei and Lainya Community Leaders Trained in Peace Promotion Efforts

(YEI / LAINYA ) -The Community Development Centre (CDC), a leading national NGO based in Yei, says 35 community stakeholders drawn from Yei and Lainya County have been trained as community peace ambassadors in a bid to strengthen peacebuilding efforts in the region.

The participants, including representatives from faith-based institutions, traditional chiefs, youth and other local stakeholders received training in peacebuilding, conflict prevention, mediation and reconciliation at the community level.

Speaking to Access Radio on Thursday, CDC’s Executive Director Sebit Martin said the training was aimed at promoting sustainable peace initiatives within local communities.

He urged participants to put the acquired skills into practical action by advancing local peace mediation and reconciliation efforts.

“We as leaders on the ground have a great role in building peace and, as CDC, we believe that local solutions are the best approaches to peacebuilding. Peace should start from our homes, communities, society, and the whole country, and peace begins with us,” Sebit said.

The training was conducted under the Triple Nexus Project, funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) through Caritas Switzerland as the lead partner, with CDC serving as the implementing peacebuilding partner in Central Equatoria, West Nile in Uganda.
