(LAINYA COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Lainya County in Central Equatoria State has hailed the distribution of donated non food items to returnees and vulnerable residents, in an event that reflects growing community support efforts in South Sudan.
The distribution took place on Thursday in Lainya County and was attended by local community leaders, county officials and representatives of the Bereka community based in Juba. The items included clothes and other basic household materials intended to meet immediate needs among families affected by displacement and hardship.
The donated items were provided by members of the Bereka community, many of whom live in Juba, as part of a voluntary effort to support people returning to Lainya County. Organisers said the initiative was aimed at easing daily challenges while also encouraging peaceful living and cooperation among residents.
Hon. Robert Lasu John Morris, the Commissioner of Lainya County, thanked the Bereka community for their support and presence. He said the donation showed strong links between communities inside South Sudan and a shared responsibility to support those in need.
He told the gathering that the items would help families who are struggling to rebuild their lives. He added that such gestures are important at a time when many communities across the country continue to face economic pressure and limited access to basic services.
The Commissioner also called on recipients to use the items carefully and to consider sharing with neighbours who may be in greater need. He said unity and fairness at community level remain key to maintaining peace and stability in the county.
Local leaders at the event welcomed the donation and said community based support remains vital, especially as humanitarian assistance has become limited in some areas. They noted that locally driven actions can help fill gaps and strengthen trust among residents.
The distribution forms part of broader efforts by the Lainya County Government to promote peace, stability and development. County authorities say they will continue to work with communities, faith groups and partners to support vulnerable people and returning families.
