(Juba) – MTN South Sudan has completed the installation of a new technology hub at the Mangateen Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, aiming to expand digital access and promote inclusion among vulnerable populations.
The new tech hub, launched as part of the company’s annual #21DaysofYelloCare campaign, is now fully equipped with internet connectivity, computers, and solar energy to ensure uninterrupted digital access. On the day of the launch, MTN South Sudan’s Chief Executive Officer and a dedicated team were on the ground to oversee the final setup and to engage directly with residents of the camp.
According to the company, the initiative reflects its broader commitment to narrowing the digital divide by empowering displaced individuals through access to technology and information. MTN described the tech hub as a step toward a “digitally inclusive future,” especially for those who often remain excluded due to conflict and displacement.
The Mangateen IDP camp, located in the capital Juba, is home to thousands of South Sudanese who were displaced by violence and insecurity in other regions. Many residents have limited access to formal education, employment, and digital infrastructure. The tech hub is intended to offer basic digital skills training, enable communication with family members across the country and abroad, and provide opportunities for learning and innovation.
The solar-powered facility will help users overcome the frequent electricity shortages experienced in the region. MTN emphasized that access to digital tools and reliable internet can help transform lives, especially for young people and women in marginalized communities.
This year’s #21DaysofYelloCare campaign focused on digital inclusion, with MTN teams across Africa launching projects to increase access to technology. The South Sudan team’s efforts at Mangateen mark a key achievement in the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.
MTN reaffirmed that it remains dedicated to connecting communities and supporting the recovery and development of South Sudan.
