(JUBA)-City Link Africa operations have been suspended following a fatal plane crash involving one of its aircraft, as authorities move to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The suspension order was issued on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, by the Minister of Transport, Rizik Zakaria Hassan, who directed that the airline cease operations across the country until further notice
According to the order, the suspension is intended to allow for a comprehensive investigation into the crash, including an assessment of the human, technical, and environmental factors that may have contributed to the accident.
An audit of the airline’s remaining aircraft will also be conducted to verify their airworthiness and ensure compliance with safety standards.
“The purpose of this Ministerial Order is to determine the facts, conditions, and circumstances relating to the fatal plane crash of City Link Africa,” the document states.
He added that the move will also help strengthen aviation safety laws and restore confidence in air travel within the country.
The decision follows a tragic incident earlier this week in which a City Link Africa aircraft crashed approximately 20 kilometers southwest of Juba, killing all 14 people on board.
The aircraft, a Cessna 208 Caravan, had departed Yei en route to the capital when it went down under circumstances that are still under investigation.
The crash has once again highlighted ongoing concerns about aviation safety in South Sudan, where air transport remains a critical link due to limited road infrastructure.
Over the years, several aircraft accidents have been recorded, often attributed to poor weather conditions, ageing fleets, and gaps in regulatory oversight.
The suspension of City Link is meant to provide space for investigators to carry out their work while ensuring that any systemic issues within the airline are identified and addressed.
