(YEI RIVER COUNTY, CENTRAL EQUATORIA STATE) – Four people, including a South Sudan People’s Defence Forces serviceman, have been killed in an armed ambush along Kaya Road while travelling to Yei, local authorities said.
The attack left one soldier and three civilians dead. The victims included Captain Ladu Isaac of the SSPDF. Officials said the ambush targeted travellers on the road linking Kaya and Yei, an area that has seen security concerns in recent years.
Authorities said the incident has caused concern among residents and raised fears about the safety of civilians and security personnel using the route.
Local officials condemned the attack and called for a full investigation to identify those responsible. They said such violence threatens the safety of communities and undermines stability in the area.
In a statement, the county commissioner expressed condolences to the families of the victims and all those affected. He said the deaths of both a serviceman and civilians represent a loss to the community and the country.
Officials urged unity and calm as security agencies work to establish the circumstances of the attack. They said further updates would be provided as investigations continue.
