(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJoSS), Central Equatoria State Union Branch, has expressed deep sorrow following a tragic aircraft incident that occurred on Monday morning, approximately 20 kilometers southwest of Juba.
According to a statement released by the Union on Monday, the aircraft operated by City Link Aviation Limited departed Yei Airfield at 9:15 a.m., bound for Juba International Airport. Communication with the aircraft was lost at approximately 9:43 a.m., prompting immediate follow-up with relevant aviation authorities. The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority later confirmed that there were no survivors.
Speaking on behalf of the Union, Buga Alex Usto, Coordinator of the UJoSS Central Equatoria State Branch, revealed that two esteemed members of the media fraternity were among those on board.
“Of particular concern to the Union is that two esteemed members of the media fraternity were on board the aircraft,” he said.
The victims have been identified as Ms. Vivian Nadenge Alfons, Secretary of the Union of Journalists of South Sudan, Central Equatoria Branch, who was recognized for her dedicated and honest service, and Mama Hawa Adams, a respected broadcast journalist with Spirit FM 99.9 in Yei.
The Union extended its deepest condolences and solidarity to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of all those who lost their lives in the crash. It emphasized that the media fraternity stands united during this difficult time and awaits further updates regarding the incident.
