(Morobo) – Over 250 households in Nyargilo village, Panyume Payam, Morobo County, have received aid from Stromme Foundation, marking the first assistance to returnees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) since their occupation of the area about a month ago.
The aid distribution, which included tarpaulin, seeds, and agricultural tools, was made possible through a partnership between Stromme Foundation and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Dara Elisa, Stromme Foundation’s Agricultural Technical Advisor, hailed the breakthrough in accessing the isolated area and emphasized the need for more supplies to address the immense challenges faced by the community. Mary Rita, an IDP and beneficiary of the donated farm tools appreciated Stromme Foundation for the support. ” We are greatful to this organisation for supporting us. We came here since April and things were hard because we don’t have farm tools and shelter and with this support provided to us we can now go the new by farms to tilt the soil and produce our own food” she noted. Rita called on the county government to restore peace and security so that IDPs and farmers like herself can engage in food production and fight food insecurity in the area. For his part, Charles Data Bullen, Morobo County Commissioner, witnessed the distribution and assured the IDPs of more support from partners in the near future. The distribution team faced significant challenges due to poor road networks, which Commissioner Bullen acknowledged as a major obstacle. Commissioner Bullen encouraged the community to utilize the agricultural supplies to build a durable foundation through cultivation and avoid taking risks to areas with security threats. In late March 2025, Clashes between SPLA-IO and SSPDF left over 7,000 local residents of Panyume, Gulumbi and Kendila displaced into Morobo town. The IDPS mostly women, children and the elderly camped in school and church shelters with access to basic social services including clean water, medicines and food assistance.Discover more from Access Radio Yei News
