(MOROBO COUNTY) – Authorities in Morobo County, Central Equatoria State, have announced plans to boost agricultural production through mechanized farming.
Morobo County Commissioner Charles Data Bullen, speaking in a video widely shared on social media platforms, said his administration is determined to tackle food insecurity and improve livelihoods through increased farming activities this year.
Commissioner Data revealed that the county government has secured two brand-new tractors to support progressive farmers and cooperatives operating in the area.
He added that the county government is prepared to cover fuel and part of the maintenance costs to ensure the tractors operate efficiently throughout the farming season.
The commissioner is now calling on farmers to register with his office and the County Department of Agriculture to access the tractors under a coordinated and timely schedule.
“We need to begin farming in January, February, and March. If you have land ready for ploughing, please come to the office for registration. Our team will assess your farm, and the tractors will be deployed to plough your land. The tractors are currently idle, and we want farmers to utilize them early to avoid congestion in March. We shall subsidize the tractors at a low cost this year, provide fuel, and offer some support for maintenance,” Commissioner Data said.
Morobo County lies within South Sudan’s green belt region, known for its fertile soils and favorable rainfall suitable for crop production. However, prolonged insecurity over the past decade has significantly disrupted farming activities in the area.
