(LAINYA COUNTY) – The International Committee of the Red Cross, or ICRC, in partnership with the South Sudan Red Cross, has distributed farming tools and vegetable seeds to 800 vulnerable families in Lainya County, Central Equatoria State, to help them restore their livelihoods and boost food production.
The distribution took place on Friday and targeted farming households in Mukaya, Yondoru, Dimu One and Lorega bomas of Lainya County. Beneficiaries include families displaced by conflict and others struggling to recover from the effects of insecurity and displacement.
According to the humanitarian organisations, the support is intended to enable vulnerable households to restart agricultural activities, improve household food production and strengthen food security ahead of the planting season.
The package included essential farming tools and vegetable seeds aimed at helping families cultivate crops and generate food for their households.
ICRC and the South Sudan Red Cross said supporting agricultural production remains critical in helping communities rebuild their livelihoods and reduce dependence on humanitarian assistance.
The organisations noted that many families in Lainya County continue to face challenges caused by displacement, limited access to resources and the lingering impacts of conflict.
The assistance forms part of ongoing humanitarian efforts to strengthen community resilience and support vulnerable populations across Central Equatoria State.
For residents of Mukaya, Yondoru, Dimu One and Lorega, the farming inputs offer renewed hope for a productive season and improved access to food for their families.
