(JUBA / YEI) The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has directed the immediate rejuvenation of electricity supply in Yei Town following the submission of a comprehensive technical report on the status of the Yei Electricity Corporation (YECO).
The report was presented by a State Ad-Hoc Committee of technocrats constituted by the Governor to conduct a one-week technical assessment of YECO’s infrastructure and operational capacity. The committee was led by the Director General in the State Ministry of Housing, Lands, and Public Utilities, Mr. John Bullen.
According to the findings, the team evaluated the overall condition of the power facility, examined the functionality of key machinery, and reviewed maintenance records to determine the critical interventions required to restore operations. The assessment comes after years of non-functionality attributed to the impact of past conflict and prolonged neglect.
Governor Adil emphasized that restoring reliable electricity in Yei Town remains a top government priority, describing power supply as a cornerstone for socio-economic recovery and improved public service delivery in Yei River County.
He underscored that access to stable electricity will stimulate local businesses, enhance security, support health and education institutions, and rebuild public confidence in government services.
The Governor further directed the relevant ministry and technical teams to expedite the implementation of the committee’s recommendations, ensuring that the rehabilitation process is carried out efficiently and transparently.
The State Government reaffirmed its commitment to infrastructure recovery and sustainable development across Central Equatoria State, with electricity restoration in Yei forming a key pillar of that broader agenda.
