Press Release-Yei River County Government
(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Authorities in Yei River County have confirmed that more than 200 head of cattle, including cows, goats, and sheep, were raided, properties destroyed, and two SSPDF soldiers killed on Sunday.
In a press release signed and issued on Monday, Yei River County Commissioner Emmanuel Taban Seme confirmed that the raids occurred in several villages across the county, including Mapoko, Goli, Jansuk, Gimunu, Pokula, and Giru.
Residents and community leaders also reported similar armed raids in Tokori, Logo, Pisak, and Minyori Bomas.
According to Commissioner Seme, the perpetrators identified as Mundari armed herders not only raided livestock but also looted property, vandalized farmlands, and harassed civilians in the affected villages.
Despite previous efforts and resolutions aimed at the peaceful relocation of the cattle herders, Commissioner Seme stated that the herders have remained defiant and continue to pose a serious security threat to the people of Yei River County.
“I hereby strongly condemn these criminal acts in the strongest terms possible. Such lawlessness, destruction, and displacement of our people will not be tolerated because they are anti-peace and detrimental to stability and development,” the statement partly reads.
The Commissioner further revealed that during an operation to contain another raid in Giru on Sunday night, two SSPDF soldiers lost their lives while two others sustained injuries.
“The County Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured,” the statement added.
Commissioner Seme announced that the county government has formed a mobile security task force mandated to pursue and apprehend those responsible, ensure they are held accountable, and facilitate their removal from the territory of Yei River County.
He called on the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security forces during the ongoing operation.
“Citizens are advised not to take the law into their own hands but to report any suspicious movements or incidents to the relevant authorities,” the statement emphasized.
The county government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while restoring peace and normalcy across all affected areas.
