(JUBA) – The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, has directed newly sworn-in mining officials to regulate mining activities, combat illegal extraction of natural resources, and establish frameworks that ensure environmental protection and proper legal licensing.
Speaking in Juba on Monday, Governor Adil emphasized the need for stronger oversight to address illegal mining operations and safeguard the state’s natural resources. He tasked the new leadership of the Mining Authority with developing clear regulatory systems that promote accountability, environmental safety, and lawful operations.
The Governor further urged the authority to collaborate closely with the National Ministry of Mining and the State Ministry of Trade and Industry to ensure coherent policy guidance. He also encouraged efforts to identify untapped mineral resources within Central Equatoria that could generate revenue for critical infrastructure development, including schools, hospitals, and roads.
The newly sworn-in officials include;Dabe Francis Elisama Murye – Commissioner General of the Mining Authority and Taban Clement Oliver, Deputy Commissioner General.
In his acceptance speech, Commissioner General Dabe pledged to uphold accountability, transparency, and operational effectiveness to ensure the authority serves the public interest.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the State Secretariat and was attended by senior officials, including the Deputy Governor, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, the Minister of Finance, Planning and Investment, the Minister of Trade and Industry and community representatives.
The directive marks a significant step toward strengthening governance in the mining sector in Central Equatoria State.
