(YEI COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County has ordered the quick completion of rehabilitation works at Wuluturu Culvert following an inspection visit to the site.
Hon. Emmanuel Taban Seme, Commissioner of Yei River County in Central Equatoria State, issued the directive on Friday 27 February 2026 after assessing progress on the ground and meeting engineers and technical staff.
During the visit, the Commissioner reviewed ongoing works and discussed timelines with the engineering team. He said the culvert is vital for residents as it allows safe movement of people, goods and services within the area.
He described the current structure as strong and durable, serving as a temporary solution while plans are being considered for a permanent bridge at the site.
He instructed engineers and the County Department of Roads and Physical Infrastructure to increase the pace of work and complete the rehabilitation before the heavy rains begin. He warned that delays could interrupt transport, slow trade and limit access to health care, education and other public services.
The Commissioner said improving roads and public infrastructure remains a priority for the county administration. He reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to restoring and maintaining public facilities in a timely and efficient way to support local communities.
The Wuluturu Culvert serves as a key access point for communities in Yei River County and supports trade and movement between rural areas and Yei town. Local authorities say timely completion of the works will help reduce the risk of seasonal flooding disrupting travel during the coming rainy season.
Access Radio understands that county officials are also reviewing longer term infrastructure needs in Yei River County, in line with broader development efforts across South Sudan.
