Juba County to Install Solar Streetlights Along Major Roads

(JUBA COUNTY) – Juba County is set to begin a series of infrastructure works aimed at improving roads, lighting, and public safety, with launches scheduled over three consecutive days next week.

The Caretaker Commissioner of Juba County, Moulana Kalisto Lado Faustino Nyigilo Wani, will launch the projects starting on Monday, 19th October 2026.

The first launch will cover the installation of solar streetlights along streets in the county. The county authority says the measure is meant to improve lighting, strengthen public safety, and support a cleaner and more modern urban environment.

On Tuesday, 20th October 2026, the Commissioner will launch the construction of road medians, protective railings, and pedestrian walkways along major roads.

The county says these works are intended to improve road safety, encourage orderly traffic movement, and give pedestrians safer routes.

A third launch is scheduled for Wednesday, 21st October 2026, for the installation of electricity and lighting on Freedom Bridge.

The bridge links the eastern and western banks of the River Nile through the Lologo 2 and Gumbo areas. Officials expect the work to improve visibility and safety for motorists and pedestrians using the crossing, and to support connectivity in the county.

The county authority described the initiatives as part of a push to make Juba County cleaner, safer, and more modern. The projects are expected to cover streets across the county, with progress targeted before Christmas and the end of 2026.

The county said the works are in line with the development priorities of the Central Equatoria State government under Governor Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, and with the national development agenda under President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

The Office of the Caretaker Commissioner has called on residents, business communities, and other stakeholders to support the initiatives and cooperate with the relevant authorities for their successful implementation.
