(Juba) – South Sudan’s Ministry of Trade and Industry has announced plans to build a new 10 storey headquarters in central Juba, a project officials say will strengthen the country’s trade infrastructure and improve its regional and global business engagement.
According to the ministry’s statement, the modern high rise will be located along the busy Juba-Yei Road and will feature additional underground levels for multi-purpose use. While no specific timeline has been given for the start of construction, the final building design has been approved.
The planned skyscraper is expected to house all departments of the Trade and Industry Ministry under one roof. It will include conference and meeting halls with capacity for more than 1,000 participants, as well as modern administrative and service facilities. The structure is intended to support the ministry’s growing operations and serve as a hub for national and regional economic activity.
Officials believe the project will help boost economic development and improve South Sudan’s position in both regional and international trade. The Ministry stated that the building will not only enhance its internal efficiency but also provide a space for dialogue between public institutions and private sector stakeholders.
Minister of Trade and Industry Ateny Wek Ateny said the new headquarters marks a strategic step forward in improving national trade policy and building institutional capacity. She emphasized the importance of such infrastructure in achieving broader economic goals, including sustainable growth and stronger partnerships.
“The building reflects our government’s intention to promote economic stability, facilitate trade, and advance South Sudan as a center for investment,” she said. “We are calling on both domestic and international partners to support this initiative.”
While the Ministry has shared architectural details, it has not disclosed the projected budget or the expected completion date for the project.
