
Aweil Learners Commended for Independence Day Performance/PHOTO CREDITS: Office of the Governor - Northern Bahr El Ghazal State
(AWEIL) – The Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Simon Ober Mawut, on Tuesday welcomed students from Cornerstone Academy Primary and Secondary Schools to his office and the State Government Secretariat during a special visit intended to inspire them to excel in education and become responsible leaders of the future.
The Governor extended the invitation after being moved by the students’ poetry performance during the recent Independence Day celebrations in Marial-Baai, Ayat East Payam, Aweil West County.
Their presentation, which honoured South Sudan’s war heroes and heroines, was delivered on 9 July 2025 and received wide praise from the community and leaders alike.
Speaking to the students during the visit, Governor Ober encouraged them to stay focused on their academic journey and personal development.
He stressed the importance of education in transforming the lives of individuals and uplifting the nation, calling it the most powerful tool for shaping a peaceful and prosperous South Sudan.
“You are the future of our state and our country,” Governor Ober told the students. “With education, you can achieve anything. Remain determined, disciplined and committed to building a better tomorrow for yourselves and your communities.”
In response, both the students and administration of Cornerstone Academy expressed their appreciation for the Governor’s recognition and encouragement.
They presented him with a certificate of appreciation, acknowledging his humility, accessibility and strong leadership in managing the affairs of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
The Governor’s office has indicated that it will continue to support initiatives that strengthen student involvement in civic and national development efforts.
