Fire Razes Four Shops in Juba County Market

(JUBA COUNTY) – A fire that broke out at Kuburi Haboba Market in Juba County on Saturday evening destroyed four shops, prompting the county commissioner to call for stronger fire prevention measures.

The fire started at about 7:25 PM on 10th October 2026 from a tea shop before spreading to the four shops, according to preliminary information from the Office of the Commissioner of Juba County.

Firefighters, supported by organised forces operating around Juba County, brought the fire under control. The area was recovering from the incident as of the time of reporting.

The Caretaker Commissioner of Juba County, Hon. Moulana Kalisto Lado Faustino Nyigilo Wani, arrived at the scene at approximately the same time the fire was reported.

During the visit, the commissioner said it was important to strengthen fire prevention measures and improve access within the market. He said all shops must be built using concrete materials and internal market roads must remain open to allow firefighters and emergency teams to move quickly.

The measures follow earlier directives aimed at improving market safety, preventing future fire incidents and ensuring effective emergency response.

The Juba County Authority has urged all traders and business owners to observe fire safety regulations, keep access routes clear and cooperate with the relevant authorities to protect lives and property.

The commissioner has previously told traders at Kuburi Haboba Market that shops made of iron sheets must be replaced with concrete structures, warning that iron sheet buildings allow fires to spread quickly.
