
Peace Conference Draws Hundreds of Youth to Yei/PHOTO CREDITS: Handout
(YEI COUNTY) – Hundreds of young people from Yei River County and neighbouring areas gathered in Yei Town for a two day peace conference focused on unity, culture and development.
The Kakuwa Youth for Peace Conference brought together participants from Yei River County, Lainya County and Morobo County. Organisers said the meeting showed a growing commitment among young people to support peacebuilding and community cooperation.
The event centred on practical ways to strengthen peaceful coexistence, address challenges facing youth and support development across the region. Discussions also focused on the use of technology to empower young people and improve opportunities.
On the second day, Kakuwa community leaders presented an action plan setting out priorities for peace, youth empowerment and local development. The plan outlined steps aimed at improving cooperation among communities and supporting long term stability.
Participants also discussed the importance of preserving Kakuwa culture and identity as part of wider efforts to strengthen unity and social cohesion.
The conference drew attendance from community leaders, youth representatives, women leaders, elders and local government officials.
