(JUBA) – The Council of Ministers of Central Equatoria State has held an extraordinary meeting to discuss preparations for the International Day of Peace and to address persistent security challenges in parts of the state.
The meeting took place on Monday in Juba and was chaired by Governor Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel. It brought together senior state officials to review strategies aimed at consolidating peace and ensuring the safety of communities affected by ongoing insecurity.
Speaking after the session, Acting Minister of Information and Communication Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado said the cabinet expressed concern over renewed incidents of instability in Morobo and Yei River Counties.
These have been linked to activities by armed holdout groups, which continue to disrupt civilian life.
“The State Government is committed to restoring peace and safeguarding the security of all communities,” Hon. Aligo said, adding that efforts would be intensified to engage affected areas in reconciliation and conflict resolution programmes.
According to the minister, the meeting also heard from the Minister of Peace Building, who presented two key proposals. The first was related to preparations for this year’s International Day of Peace, while the second sought approval for a peace symposium to be held as a lead up event.
The cabinet approved 19 September 2025 as the date for marking the International Day of Peace in Terekeka County. The symposium proposal was also endorsed, but with amendments to its estimated budget. The Ministry of Peace Building was instructed to provide a detailed cost breakdown for final consideration.
The International Day of Peace is observed annually by the United Nations to promote the ideals of non violence, encourage dialogue and strengthen cooperation between communities and nations. This year’s theme is expected to focus on building trust and healing divisions in conflict affected societies.
