Bol Mel Demands Urgent Road Upgrades for Juba
(JUBA) – Vice President Dr Benjamin Bol Mel has called for the immediate upgrading of Juba’s main road network, describing it as a crucial step for South Sudan’s economic growth and connectivity.
He made the remarks during a meeting with National Minister of Roads and Bridges Simon Mijok Mijak and Central Equatoria State Governor Rabi Majung Emmanuel on Monday, 11 August 2025.
The Vice President stressed that modern roads are the foundation of any thriving capital, serving as vital links between businesses and markets, reducing transportation costs, attracting investment and creating employment opportunities.
He said that improving Juba’s road network would have a direct impact on trade, mobility and service delivery.
Dr Bol Mel reminded the meeting of President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s directive to ensure that infrastructure projects deliver tangible benefits to the public.
He instructed the minister and governor to present, within seven days, a clear and realistic plan for the timely execution of the road works. The plan must also include measures for sustainable maintenance so that the benefits last well into the future.
The Vice President said each completed road project would bring communities closer together, boost the economy and signal a positive direction for South Sudan’s development.
“Every road we build, every project we deliver, is a fulfilment of the Government’s goal to create a South Sudan where every citizen can dream bigger and achieve more,” he said.
