(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Speaker of the Yei River County Legislative Council, Claudio Mila Charles, has confirmed that preparations are complete for the full reopening of the council this Friday.
Speaking to Access Radio ahead of the relaunch, Claudio Mila said the council will prioritize its oversight role by addressing pressing issues affecting residents across the county’s five Payams.
“We have been in consultation with the County Commissioner and agreed to reopen the Legislative Council this coming Friday. Among the key priorities for councilors will be issues affecting the people, service delivery and the passing of bylaws. We are also preparing to swear in new members and replace others. The council will consist of 35 members,” he said.
The legislative council has been inactive for more than a year.
Last month, the Yei Civil Society Forum called for the reopening of the legislative arm of government to ensure the full functioning of local government operations.
The reopening is expected to strengthen local governance and improve service delivery across Yei River County.
