(YEI RIVER COUNTY) -The Yei River County Legislative Council (CLC) officially reopened on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the County Secretariat Hall after its operations were suspended in 2024.
Speaking during the reopening ceremony, the Chairperson of the County Legislative Council, Hon. Claudios Milla, thanked the County Commissioner and the Executive Director for facilitating the inauguration of the council.
He emphasized that the event was significant and mandated by law.
“This day is not an ordinary event. It is mandated by law that the Government of South Sudan is composed of three organs. For a government to qualify and function properly, it must consist of the Legislature, the Executive, and the Judiciary,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Yei River County, Emmanuel Taban Seme, said he felt honored to officiate the ceremony marking the official inauguration of the County Transitional Legislative Council 2026.
He noted that several attempts had been made in previous years to inaugurate the council, but the efforts were unsuccessful due to unavoidable circumstances.
“Over the years, several attempts were made to inaugurate this August House, but due to unavoidable circumstances it could not be done. Today we are grateful that it has finally become possible,” he said.
The commissioner also expressed concern over the impact of conflicts that have affected the county.
“It is very unfortunate that over the years our people have experienced imported conflicts that are not part of our culture. These conflicts have caused destruction of lives and property and brought untold suffering, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes across the five payams of Yei,” he added.
Commissioner Seme appreciated the efforts of county departments for performing their duties, development partners for supporting peace and service delivery, and religious leaders for their prayers and commitment toward peace and development.
He further stated that his administration will prioritize security and stability in the county.
“As I have assumed this leadership position, my top priority will be security. I will work with all security organs, youth, church leaders, traditional leaders, communities, and other stakeholders to restore peace and security in Yei River County,” he said.
The commissioner also reiterated his commitment to working with all county departments to improve key sectors including agriculture, health, education, and infrastructure.
