(LAINYA) – The Commissioner of Lainya County in Central Equatoria State has received Members of Parliament representing Lainya County ahead of a planned Civil Society Exchange Visit and Policy Dialogue, set to begin on Thursday 24 July and run through Friday 25 July 2025.
The event is expected to bring together leaders and stakeholders from across the four counties of Greater Yei for a meaningful dialogue on local governance and development. The discussions will take place at LTVI Hall, a key venue in Lainya Town.
According to local officials, the initiative aims to promote collaboration, exchange policy ideas and address challenges facing the communities in the Greater Yei region, including Lainya, Morobo, Yei River and Kajo-Keji counties.
In a welcoming address, the Commissioner of Lainya County briefed the visiting lawmakers on the current security situation in the area. He assured them that measures had been put in place to ensure a safe and secure environment throughout their stay and participation in the dialogue.
Honourable Robert Lasu, one of the MPs in attendance, expressed optimism about the success of the upcoming engagement. He welcomed fellow MPs and civil society representatives to Lainya and stressed the importance of open dialogue in shaping development policies for the county and the wider region.
In response, the Members of Parliament thanked the Commissioner for the warm reception and pledged to actively contribute to the discussions. They highlighted the significance of sharing insights and best practices that could benefit Lainya and similar counties facing shared development challenges.
The tw -day dialogue is expected to generate policy proposals and community driven recommendations aimed at improving governance, peacebuilding and basic service delivery in Lainya County and beyond.
The event also offers a rare opportunity for civil society and elected representatives to engage directly on issues affecting constituents, including youth empowerment, infrastructure development, health services and education.
