(MOROBO COUNTY, CENTRAL EQUATORIA) – The Morobo County Youth Association has elected new leaders in what has been described as a landmark and highly democratic process. The elections were held on 3 September 2025 at the Youth Association Hall in Morobo.
Emmanuel December was chosen as Chairperson, while Amule Bill was elected Speaker. The election followed a day of deliberations on the association’s constitution, which was reviewed and updated by members as part of preparations for a fresh start in leadership and accountability.
The process was conducted under the legal guidance of lawyer Loboka Francis from the Central Equatoria Youth Union. Senior officials from the state youth structures, including the Chairperson, Secretary General and the Secretary for County Affairs, were present to witness the proceedings.
Representing the County Executive Director, Remo Samuel praised the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and its consortium partners for supporting Morobo County. He acknowledged their role in funding and organising the two day youth conference that concluded with the election.
IOM representative Asio Luke welcomed the new leadership but reminded participants that Morobo youths had in the past lost opportunities for grants and partnerships due to disorganisation. He noted that similar challenges had also been observed in neighbouring Lainya County. The expectation, he said, is that the new team will ensure better coordination and accountability.
State Youth Union Secretary General, Sekwat James, described the election as a turning point for Morobo’s young people. He pledged that the State Youth Union will provide technical support to strengthen the association’s capacity and effectiveness in representing youth interests.
The newly elected Chairperson, Emmanuel December, has been tasked with forming a complete executive body across all county levels within one week. This is expected to be his first assignment in a two year term.
Community leaders and youth representatives expressed hope that his leadership will foster inclusiveness, open access to opportunities, and set higher standards for youth engagement in Morobo County.
