(YEI) – The Commissioner of Yei River County, Hon. Emmanuel Taban Seme, has condemned the ambush and abduction of the Paramount Chief of Yei River County and two aid workers, which occurred on 7 July 2025 along the Yei–Maridi road.
The kidnapping took place approximately 7 miles from Yei, as the group was travelling to Pisik to take part in a community dialogue initiative.
In a statement released on 8 July 2025, Commissioner Seme described the incident as a “horrific violation of human dignity” and a reminder of how fragile peace remains in parts of Central Equatoria State.
He labelled the ambush a “very serious criminal act” and stated that it was not only an attack on individuals but also a threat to the broader community’s safety and stability.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Yei River County Government to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He called on individuals with grievances to abandon violence and instead join in peaceful dialogue aimed at promoting reconciliation and sustainable development.
He emphasised the need for collective responsibility and unity to prevent further violence, saying:
“We do not want to see any more bloodshed, torture, ambushes and abduction of civilians. Our people have suffered enough. Let us give them the chance to enjoy the dividends of the relative peace.”
The Commissioner also urged all security organs and relevant authorities to intensify their efforts to protect civilians, ensure justice and prevent similar attacks from occurring in future. He appealed to the community to stand against violence and work towards peaceful co-existence.
“No one should allow the actions of a few to compromise the value of peace, justice, and human dignity,” he concluded.
